Julie, who volunteered for ETIV do Brasil in 2018

My volunteer experience with ETIV do Brasil was truly a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget. I volunteered with ETIV in Itacaré, Bahia, Brasil from May 2018 to August 2018 and would have stayed even longer if I could! Itacaré is a tropical paradise and the community is very welcoming. The kids are adorable and there is a positive energy all around. Jaci, ETIV do Brasil's director, is an amazing person and you can truly feel her love and passion for what she is doing. I would recommend volunteering with ETIV do Brasil to anyone looking for a positive, fun, and fulfilling volunteer experience in a beautiful setting.

Eva, from Mexico, who volunteered in Brazil for ETIV do Brasil in 2018

volunteering for etiv was an amazing experience! I volunteered for 3 months and since the organization is relatively new, i had a lot of opportunities to use my personal strengths while receiving great support and mentorship from the staff. etiv encourages an entrepreneur mindset and welcomes fresh minds!

I learned so much as the marketing coordinator and english teacher, and i really enjoyed my time in the field with the kids, learning from them and the community. i was even able to learn speaking portuguese, which helped me to bond better with the locals and make the most of my experience.

volunteer experiences are always gratifying, but by volunteering with etiv you also get to live in one of the most beautiful towns in brazil, which makes the whole experience even better.

August 2017

Paula, former ETIV do Brasil volunteer

I have been volunteering with ETIV do Brasil for 6 months from March to August 2017, and my experience was great! My job was to teach English for young people in the age of 5-17 years.

The work that the organization is doing in Itacaré is very much needed and you have the opportunity to have a great influence on the kids. You really get to be creative when it comes to creating material for the classes or planning them. Moreover, you get to work together with an international team of young people from all over the world, who are dedicated and willing to make a difference.

One of my best overall experiences was getting to know the local community in a small Brazilian town. What you give to the community is with no doubt received in the appreciation and love from the kids and all the other people in the historical, beautiful and authentic town Itacaré.

If you work with the kids be prepared to:
- Speak some Portuguese
- Be dedicated for planning great lessons
- Remember that you are representing a NGO, even when you are off work
- Receive a lot of love from the kids!

Be aware of:
- Your own dedication has a big influence on your overall experience
- Be ready to take responsibility for your own work
- It is still a pretty young NGO so don't expect that everything is planned down to every little detail
- It is a small but nice NGO. The average number of volunteers who is working at the same time is around 8

I will without hesitation recommend ETIV do Brasil to people who are willing to work and make a great effort to make a difference in a local community!

Ana, who volunteered for ETIV do Brasil in Itacaré, Bahia, in 2017

My experience at ETIV do Brasil has been incredible. The volunteers all bring such a special light and passion to the program in their own way. The children of Itacaré and neighborhood of Passagem are very friendly and open to learn. Its really nice that volunteers get a lot of freedom to initiate their own projects, and that also teaches you a lot about responsibility and commitment. The community here at ETIV is very united and everyone is aware of each other’s projects.

In terms of Marketing work, the schedule is very flexible and the variety of tasks and freedom for new projects is nice, but requires organized and dedicated volunteers and interns. Other volunteers are very helpful when it comes to pictures, blogs, and filming classes. Sometimes organization and administration can get blurry since we ETIV is a small NGO, but working through this is part of learning to solve different kinds of issues. Itacaré is beautiful! The local people are very friendly, there is a very vivid night life, and much to do especially for those looking for adventure. ETIV is what you make it!

June 2016

My experience spent in Brazil over a six week period working at ETIV Do Brasil was one of the best experiences of my life! Growing up I was fortunate enough to experience life with privilege due to the hard work of my parents. I have had an amazingly easy life compared to most and I believe that giving back when you have so much is crucial because it restructures the world we live in.

ETIV allows you to do this in the best way. My friend and I worked as environmental conservation teachers and taught children how to conserve the environment. It was a beautiful experience, the children we worked with are so amazing coming to class each day with the brightest smiles on their faces making it even better.

We also did handiwork around the NGO which was good because we wanted to contribute to the formation of ETIV. The company is great, the directors Jaci and Rachel are superb. They are always there to assist and they are people with great hearts and motives.

ETIV also allows you to experience the amazing activities that Itacaré has to offer. We went white water rafting, hiking, visited numerous breathtaking beaches and learned to surf! It was just fantastic! The people in the town are friendly and welcoming and so kind. I would recommend this to anybody anywhere in the world. You will gain so much humility and learn a lot about yourself, at least I did.

May 2016

I have volunteered for 3 months for ETIV do Brasil as an English teacher. the ngo is located in a small town called Itacaré, in Bahia. I cannot explain how beautiful this town is. Amazing beaches, kind people, really good cuisine; But what made my experience even better was volunteering and being connected with local people.

Leyla, French former volunteer who supported ETIV do Brasil in Brazil in 2016

The volunteer house is located in a neighborhood called “Passagem”. We started to give English classes for free in this bairro (neighborhood in Portuguese) first. The kids are lovely and willing to learn! And every week we have more new students which is great to see! Now we are also teaching English in a public school and in another bairro!

I absolutely loved my experience there! I believe that the acquisition of a second language or more is extremely important for a better understanding of ourselves, and really beneficial for our future, and this is why I chose to teach English. I really hope other volunteers like me will make the choice to volunteer with ETIV and help the kids in Itacaré.

April 2016

Jaci and Monique, who run this program, are the most caring and compassionate people I’ve met in my travels. They really care about the work they do and the people they help with their program. But they also care about the volunteers who come so far from home.

I was comfortable and happy working with them because they go out of their way to provide for volunteer’s needs in whatever way they can, whether it’s to enjoy a lunch together, offer an interesting activity or just to listen. I recommend this program because these are REAL people who will be waiting for you when you arrive and you will feel that you are making a real difference in the lives of the locals.

March 2016

I loved my time volunteering with ETIV do Brasil so much I extended my stay (and to be honest I never really wanted to leave)! Given that the organization was still fairly new, I had the opportunity to be involved in the setting up of the English projects, and I was even able to start my own project! The kids there are amazing and the location is absolute paradise! You definitely won’t regret coming to Itacaré, I definitely didn’t!

Taryn, Australian who volunteered in South America for ETIV do Brasil in Itacaré

Itacaré is the perfect volunteering destination if you are a lover of the great outdoors – sun, surf, jungle and wildlife. “ETIV do Brasil” is a very new NGO, so the opportunity to share ideas, work on a range of projects and be very widely involved in the organization is all yours!

I volunteered there for 2 months and truly loved watching the organization grow in such a small time frame. i also loved having the ability to contribute in a wide variety of ways. The beauty of Itacaré makes you even forget you are even working!
